Skateboarding - Panning
Skateboarding - Freeze Motion
Between these two images I don't necessarily believe that either one of them are more effective than the other because all though they are similar actions, the photographs themselves are very different. I love the panning in the first image because it creates a much more artistic image and the use of black and white to unify the image almost blurs the subject into the background. The freeze motion of the second image is effective in that the motion is stopped and shows the athleticism that is often forgotten in skateboarding. You see the almost awkward angle and struggle to stay on the board as the skater is moving. The image portrays a real sense of balance yet at the same time instability in that given moment. This kind of motion is very different from the almost fluidity of the panning photograph.
